An SOP is there as a tool for you to use. It assists us all in ensuring that we know what is expected of you at work, helps us with ensuring we have the materials and equipment to do your work right. When used regularly, the SOP’s assists us with ensuring we are improving on what we are doing and in that way, helps us develop and progress as employees, in the way that will best serve us, the business and our clients. Without SOP’s, it would be very difficult for ourselves and others to measure if we are doing quality work and if we are making progress in our work and career. All though we cannot ignore SOP’s, they are not written as tools to get us into trouble – they are tools to ensure we do what we are employed to do.

Checklists and, where relevant, SOP’s are part of the standard equipment needed for almost all work related activities. Welcoming Board writing is no different. We use clean, lukewarm water and a clean cloth to wipe the board before we start, as well as to neaten up the final touches. We must make sure we have at least 2 new / undamaged black plastic bags and masking tape as part of our equipment, before we start the job. We use masking tape and not duct tape when covering the completed Welcoming Board.
